Mae Hong Son Five Day Tour – Hard Trek – Pang Mapha
Community Based Tourism hard trek. Many different indigenous tribes live together in harmony in Pang Mapha.
This trek will take you closer to 4 different indigenous cultures; Red Lahu, White Karen, Shan or Thai-Yai and Black Lahu.
With a total distance of approximately 35 kms. this hike will lead you through beautiful limestone mountains, local farming and traditional cultures. Experience local wisdom.
Itinerary
Meals included: B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner
Day 1 Trekking to Ban Pha Mon Village (L,D)
- Morning transfer from your hotel in Mae Hong Son or Pai. Enjoy the beautiful journey through the mountains.
- Stop over at Pang Mapha viewpoint for a short break.
- Afterwards continue driving to “Pa Mai Daeng” or Redwood Forest where the trail head is.
- Meet with local guide then kick-off for your 5 days trek.
- Lunch: at local farmer hut (local Red Lahu dishes)
- Afternoon: enjoy your trek through local farms and limestone mountains. Discover nature and waterfalls as we hike for around for 3 hours.
- Late afternoon arrive at Ban Pha Mon a Red Lahu village. Check in homestay.
- Free at leisure or observe and learn how local host family cooks your traditional Lahu meals.
Day 2 Trekking to Ban Muang Pam (B,L,D)
- Morning: Breakfast at your homestay
- Pack up and continue your day 2 trek to a White Karen village.
- Today’s trek is about 5-6 hours. During the trek you will enjoy beautiful nature and wonderful scenery.
- Lunch: Experience jungle cooking style by our local team.
- Afternoon: continue you trek through beautiful forests. Along the way we will visit some local caves, rice paddy fields, and forests in a conservation area.
- Late afternoon arrive at Ban Muang Pam. Expect a warm welcome by Ban Muang Pam Community Based Tourism club and then check in at Muang Pam Camp Park or homestay.
- Free at leisure or observe and learn how local host family cooks your traditional Karen meals.
Day 3 trekking to a Shan Village (B,L,D)
- Today will be your longest trek.
- After your breakfast at your homestay, pack up and get onto a bamboo raft along the beautiful Lang River.
- Continue your trek through the beautiful limestone mountains. Morning trek will take about 2 hours.
- Lunch: Packed lunch in the forest or local farm.
- Afternoon: Continue your trek for another 3.5-4 hours then cut down the steep path to the valley of rice-fields. Here a Shan village is located.
- Upon arrival meet your host family,
- Check in at your Shan homestay.
- Free at leisure.
- Evening: Enjoy your Shan dishes at your homestay. Goodnight
Day 4 Trekking to meet the Black Lahu (B,L,D)
- Today you don’t have to wake up early. Breakfast at your homestay, then take a relaxing walk to experience the local traditional way of life.
- Late morning pack up and say goodbye to your host family.
- Leave for the morning short trek to Ban Jabo about 1 hour.
- Upon arrival meet your host family.
- Lunch: at your homestay enjoy Black Lahu foods
- Afternoon: Continue your trek to observe a pre-historic ‘wood coffin’ cave located on the cliff. Wonder at the 2,000 -1,500 years old of Wooden coffins. You will be surprised at how they had been moved to the high mountain.
- Late afternoon return to the village and visit a local school.
- Return to your homestay.
- Enjoy free time or join your host family to cook Lahu dishes.
- Evening: Enjoy your Lahu dishes and relax.
Day 5 Lahu Experience (B,L)
- Morning wake up and enjoy the morning panoramic view of the mountains.
- Enjoy breakfast at your homestay.
- Today you don’t have to trek. Instead, we will take a tour of the village to experience the Lahu traditional way of life. Learn bamboo weaving, learn how to play some Lahu instruments and learn Lahu sewing.
- Lunch: at your homestay
- Afternoon: pack up and say goodbye to your Black Lahu host family.
- Drive back to Mae Hong Son or Pai. End of service.
