Youthlinc Service at BLC
Andaman Discoveries was happy to help support the work of two separate groups of Youthlinc volunteers from Utah, USA at the Burmese Learning Center! In both June and July, groups of 40 volunteers and team leaders came to Kuraburi to work hard on different construction projects, teaching English, as well as occupational and health skills to the local community. Thanks to the help of the Rotary Patong , AD was able to work along with Youthlinc and donated over 600 hours of staff time to this program!
The construction work completed a new bathroom for the nursery children, much improved playground area, tiled classroom floors, and refurbished kitchen area, planting a vegetable hedge for the side of the school and a back wall for security. The creativity and artist inspiration that accompanied the work helped make the center a more colorful and inviting place for the children to play and learn!
With the help of our partners FED (Foundation for Education and Development), the groups were able to participate in cultural exchanges with the local community, develop a sewing group with the Burmese women at a local temple, teach English to the Thai village health volunteers and acquire a deeper understanding of the situation Burmese migrants face in Thailand.
If you are interested in bringing a group service tour to the Burmese please contact us. Andaman Discoveries can tailor a group volunteer tour in Thailand to suit your specific interests such as educational curriculum, community service and cultural exchange. We reach out to our network of communities to develop volunteer projects along with the community members and school. This is essential in creating positive and sustainable community service in Thailand.
